Le Haut Desert Aerie Is a Dreamy Joshua Tree Compound Listed for $4.45M

Your Own Dreamy Joshua Tree Compound is Right Here, for $4.45M

As any creative or trendsetter knows, the Joshua Tree area is hot, hot, hot—and it’s not just because of its desert locale.

In the backyard of glitzy Palm Springs, CA, and rugged Joshua Tree National Park, towns such as Pioneertown, Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree have become hot spots for second homes and vacationers—and even destination weddings.

That’s what makes this 40-acre compound in Pioneertown such a sweet opportunity. Known as Le Haut Desert Aerie, the one-of-a-kind property is listed with Paul Goff of Pioneertown Properties for $4.45 million. Built in 1999, it’s had only one owner—a custom furniture maker who’s now ready to move on.

The 3,360-square-foot main house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It features solar panels and has access to a power grid. An acre-sized lake comes with the property.

“It’s a 40-acre property where all the work has been done. It’s an authentic, handmade piece of livable art,” says Goff. “It has 360-degree views where you see nobody,” he adds, extolling the privacy.

Amenities include a pizza oven, meditation room, and decorative accents that make visitors feel as if they’re in Morocco, India, or Tibet.

A small vineyard, fruit orchards, olive groves, and a stacked-stone hermitage (for meditation) are also on the property. In the living room is a wood-burning fireplace, its mantel adorned with jewels. The glass-walled meditation room is attached to the master suite.

So what’s life like in Pioneertown, with a population of 420?

“It’s a boho-chic destination for millennials, and everyone else,” says Goff. “It’s peaceful, but it can also be a place for energy.”

San Diego and Los Angeles are about a 2.5-hour drive away. Coachella is just under an hour, and Palm Springs is 30 miles south of Pioneertown.

Goff thinks a buyer might use the property to host wellness, yoga, or writing retreats—or even destination weddings. Airstream trailers parked on the property plus two glamping tents (included with the sale) have access to a shared bathhouse and an outdoor kitchen. A Quonset hut serves as an art studio. There’s also a stage ripe for live music.

“Yoga retreats are really big in Joshua Tree,” says Goff. “Weddings in Joshua Tree are huge.”

This compound, which already hosts weddings, could also serve as an inn or bed-and-breakfast.

There’s currently a huge demand for boutique lodging in or near Pioneertown, Goff adds, for “people that have a sophisticated palate that don’t want a pedestrian hotel room. They want a place that’s authentic and stylish. There’s also a lack of lodging in the Joshua Tree area in terms of branded names we all recognize.”

Visitors to the area come from nearby Los Angeles and also the Pacific Northwest and New York City, he adds.

If you’re feeling the itch to become a proprietor, we suggest you make your way to this stylish oasis in the desert. This aerie deserves an awesome new owner.
